Dunedin sits on St. Joseph Sound, with Palm Harbor to the north. Two Scottish merchants, J.O. Douglas and James Somerville, opened a general store here in 1882, and the name comes from the Gaelic for Edinburgh. It became a town in 1899 and a city in 1925; today, about 36,000 people live here.
