What We Do On Every Pool Service Visit

One of the most common questions we get is: 'What exactly does a pool service visit include?' With Dog Days Pools, there's no mystery. Here's exactly what our trained technicians do every single visit — and why each step matters for the health and longevity of your pool.

(Display as a two-column checklist grid — visually impactful and scannable)

Surface Skimming — Remove all floating debris — leaves, insects, pollen, and anything else on the surface
Brushing Walls & Steps — Prevent algae and biofilm from taking hold on pool surfaces — critical in Florida's climate
Vacuuming Pool Floor — Remove settled debris and fine particles from the bottom before they affect water quality
Basket Cleaning — Empty skimmer and pump baskets to maintain proper water flow and protect your equipment
Tile & Waterline Cleaning — Prevent calcium and organic buildup at the waterline that leads to staining and scaling
Water Chemistry Testing — Test pH, chlorine, alkalinity, and other critical levels every visit with professional-grade equipment
Chemical Balancing — Add all required chemicals to bring your pool into the safe and ideal range — included in your monthly rate
Filter Inspection — Visual check on filter pressure and performance to catch issues before they become failures
Equipment Check — Inspect pump, motor, and circulation systems — early detection saves hundreds in repair costs
Service Report — We note anything unusual we observe so you're always informed about your pool's condition

Our Pool Service Plans in Clearwater & Surrounding Areas

Every pool is different — and so is every homeowner's situation. Dog Days Pools offers flexible service options with no contracts, so you get exactly what you need without paying for what you don't.

Weekly Pool Service — Our Most Popular Plan

For most Clearwater homeowners, weekly pool service is the smart choice. Florida's year-round heat, intense UV exposure, heavy summer rains, and constant threat of algae mean pools need consistent, regular attention to stay healthy. Skip even one week in the summer, and you risk a green pool.

Our weekly service plan covers everything in the checklist above — every single week, with all chemicals included in one flat monthly rate. No contracts mean you're never locked in, and our flexible scheduling means we work around you, not the other way around.

We even service your pool while you're on vacation. We can set timers, automate chemical dosing, and ensure everything is running properly without anyone needing to be home — or anyone entering your home at all.

Best for: Homeowners who want a consistently clean, always-ready pool without the weekly hassle of DIY maintenance.

One-Time Pool Cleaning

Need a single visit without a recurring plan? We've got you covered. One-time pool cleanings are perfect after a storm, before or after a backyard event, when you're moving into a new home, or if you have a seasonal or vacation property that needs a refresh.

Our one-time service is the same comprehensive cleaning our weekly customers get — full skim, brush, vacuum, chemical test and balance, basket cleaning, and equipment inspection. We bring everything with us. No prior relationship required.

Best for: New residents, vacation homeowners, event prep, or post-storm cleanups.

Green Pool Clean-Up & Algae Treatment

A green pool isn't just an eyesore — it's a genuine health hazard. Algae and bacterial growth in pool water can cause skin irritation, eye infections, and respiratory issues. Throwing in a bag of shock won't cut it — green pool restoration requires a professional, multi-step treatment process.

Dog Days Pools has brought back pools that other companies said were beyond saving. Our green pool treatment process includes a full chemical analysis, algaecide treatment, super-chlorination, brushing and vacuuming, filter cleaning, and follow-up water balancing to get your pool back to crystal-clear, safe, and swimmable condition.

We identify the root cause too — poor chemical balance, inadequate filtration, or an equipment issue — so it doesn't happen again.

Best for: Pools that have turned green, cloudy, or unsafe due to algae, bacteria, or chemical imbalance.

Pool Chemical Maintenance & Balancing

Maintaining precise chemical balance is the most technically demanding part of pool care. Too little chlorine and your pool becomes unsafe. Too much and you're irritating your swimmers' eyes and skin. Low alkalinity causes pH to bounce unpredictably. High calcium leads to scale and cloudy water.

Our technicians test and adjust pH, free chlorine, total alkalinity, calcium hardness, cyanuric acid (stabilizer), and other key parameters on every visit using professional-grade testing equipment. And unlike most competitors, all chemicals needed to make those adjustments are included in your monthly rate — not billed as an extra.

Best for: Any pool owner who wants chemically balanced, clear, and safe water without doing the math themselves.

Pool Troubleshooting & Diagnostics

Not sure why your water is cloudy when the chemicals seem fine? Hearing a strange noise from the pump? Noticing your pool losing water faster than normal? Experienced eyes can spot what Google searches can't diagnose.

Dog Days Pools offers pool troubleshooting and diagnostics backed by 20+ years of hands-on Florida pool experience. We assess the full system — circulation, filtration, chemistry, and equipment — and give you an honest, clear diagnosis. No upselling, no unnecessary work. Just straight answers about what's going on and what it will take to fix it.

Best for: Homeowners experiencing unexplained pool issues — cloudy water, algae that keeps coming back, unusual sounds, or equipment concerns.

New Pool Start-Up Service

Getting the chemistry right from the beginning is the most important thing you can do for a new pool. An improperly balanced start-up can etch plaster, stain surfaces, and set your pool's chemistry on the wrong track from day one.

Dog Days Pools provides professional new pool start-up service — establishing proper chemical baselines, testing and balancing all parameters, inspecting equipment operation, and walking you through what you need to know going forward. Starting your pool right protects your investment for years to come.

Best for: New pool installations, fresh plaster, or recently replastered pools.

Why Clearwater Homeowners Choose Dog Days Pools

There are plenty of pool service companies in Pinellas County. Here's why thousands of Clearwater-area homeowners have made Dog Days Pools their first — and last — call.

All Chemicals Always Included — Period

Many pool companies quote an attractive weekly or monthly rate, then bill you separately for chemicals every visit. Those add-ons add up fast. At Dog Days Pools, all chemicals are included in your flat monthly rate, always. No surprise invoices. No wondering what extra charges mean. One price, everything covered. Triangle Pool says 'basic chemicals included' — we include everything your pool needs, period.

No Contracts — Because We Don't Need Them

Contracts protect businesses from customers who might leave. We don't need that protection because we do the work right. Dog Days Pools operates entirely on month-to-month service agreements. Pause, resume, or stop at any time with no penalties. We earn your business every single week — and we're proud of it.

You're Dealing With the Owner

Dog Days Pools is owner-operated. When you call, you reach Larry. When something isn't right, Larry fixes it personally. When you have a question at 8pm, Larry picks up — because he has, and our reviews prove it. Compare that to a franchise where you're a ticket number in a management system.

20+ Years of Florida Pool Expertise

Florida pools are not like pools anywhere else. The subtropical heat accelerates algae growth. UV intensity burns through chlorine faster. Summer rains dilute chemicals and raise pH overnight. Two decades of working specifically in the Clearwater-area climate have given Dog Days Pools a depth of Florida-specific expertise that new or out-of-state companies simply can't match.

We Service Your Pool Even When You're Away

Going on vacation? Most homeowners worry about their pool while they're gone. Don't. Dog Days Pools can set your timers, automate chemical systems, and ensure everything runs properly — all without anyone needing to enter your home. Your pool will be in perfect condition when you get back.

Consistent, Reliable Scheduling — Including Evenings & Weekends

We're open Monday through Sunday, 9am to 9pm. Getting an estimate doesn't mean waiting until next business week. Scheduling a service doesn't mean rearranging your life. We work around your schedule, not the other way around.

Simple, Transparent Pool Service Pricing — No Contracts Required

Pool Service FAQs — Clearwater, FL

These are the questions we hear most often from Clearwater homeowners. Honest, straightforward answers — no sales pitch.

How much does pool service cost in Clearwater? +
Pool service pricing in Clearwater depends on pool size, type, and how often you'd like service. At Dog Days Pools, all chemicals are included in your monthly rate — so the price you're quoted is the price you pay. Contact us for a free estimate specific to your pool with no obligation.
Do I have to sign a contract for pool service? +
No — and that's something we're genuinely proud of. Dog Days Pools runs on month-to-month agreements only. You can pause, change, or stop service at any time without penalties. We believe you should choose us because you're happy with the service, not because you signed a year-long contract.
Are chemicals included in the pool service price? +
Yes, always. This is one of the biggest differences between Dog Days Pools and many other pool service companies. Some companies quote a low service fee, then charge separately for chlorine, algaecide, pH adjusters, and other chemicals on every visit. We include everything in one flat monthly rate. No add-on charges, ever.
How often does a Clearwater pool need to be serviced? +
For most Florida pools, we strongly recommend weekly service year-round. Clearwater's heat, humidity, and UV levels accelerate algae growth and burn through chlorine faster than in other climates. Skipping even one week during summer can lead to a green pool. In cooler months, some pools can be maintained every two weeks, but weekly is always the safest and most cost-effective approach when you factor in the cost of green pool treatments.
Can you service my pool while I'm on vacation? +
Absolutely — and this is something we do regularly for Clearwater homeowners, snowbirds, and vacation property owners. We can service your pool on your regular schedule, check equipment operation, and ensure your pool is in perfect condition the entire time you're away. Nobody needs to be home, and nobody needs to enter your house.
What happens if I have an issue between scheduled visits? +
Call or text us at (727) 205-0566. Larry is personally reachable and responsive — not a call center, not a ticketing system. We answer calls at 8pm and we’re out the same evening when the situation called for it. That's what being owner-operated means.
What size filter does my pool need? +
Filter sizing depends on your pool's volume and required turnover rate. We use the formula: Flow Rate = Pool Volume ÷ Turnover Rate ÷ 60 minutes. From the flow rate, we determine the correct filter area for your pool. As a general rule, it's better to slightly oversize a filter than undersize it. We're happy to advise on the right equipment for your specific pool — give us a call.
Why does my pool have a strong chlorine smell? +
Ironically, a strong chlorine smell usually means your chlorine isn't working — not that there's too much of it. The odor comes from chloramines, which form when chlorine bonds with ammonia from sweat and other contaminants. The fix is super-chlorination (shock treatment) to break the chloramines apart and free the chlorine to do its job. This is something we handle as part of our regular service.
